The Netgear extender must first be connected to your existing Wi-Fi network before you can create an expanded network with its own SSID and password. Through seamless switching between the original Wi-Fi network and the extended network, your devices are able to browse without any hiccups throughout your entire space.
To set up a Netgear WiFi extender, follow these general steps:
Choose a Suitable Location: Place the WiFi extender in an area where it can receive a strong and stable WiFi signal from your existing router. The extender should be within the range of your router's WiFi network.
Power On the Extender: Plug the WiFi extender into an electrical outlet and wait for it to power up. The power LED on the extender should light up.
Connect to the Extender: Using a WiFi-enabled device (e.g., laptop, smartphone, tablet), go to your device's WiFi settings and connect to the WiFi network named "NETGEAR_EXT" or similar. This is the default WiFi network of the extender.
Access the Setup Page: Open a web browser on your connected device and enter the following web address: mywifiext net or 192.168.1.250. Press Enter.
Create an Account: If prompted, create a new account or log in if you already have one. This account will allow you to manage your extender settings.
Choose Network to Extend: The setup page will display a list of available WiFi networks. Select the network you want to extend, and enter the network's password (if applicable).
Configure the Extender: You may have the option to use the same WiFi network name (SSID) and password as your existing router, or you can set up a different network name for the extender. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the configuration.
Connect Devices to the Extender: Once the extender is set up, go to your device's WiFi settings again and connect to the newly extended network.
Test Connectivity: Verify that your devices are now connected to the extended network, and check that the connection is stable and strong.
