Dissocial personality disorder is one of the most creative mental disorders in general. People affected by it often become heroes of famous crime films or blockbusters. But what does it really look like? What is a dissocial personality?

Generally speaking, a person suffering from a dissocial personality disorder does not take into account social norms. Although the diagnostic criteria for ICD-10 and DSM-IV-TR (antisocial personality) differ somewhat, the basic clinical picture of the disorder is the same in this regard. To make a diagnosis of a dissocial personality disorder, the patient's behavior must meet at least three of the seven criteria, including: dishonesty, lack of remorse or risk to the safety of oneself and/or others, as well as irritability. Dissocial personality disorder is diagnosed after the patient reaches the age of 18, provided that behavioral disorders have occurred before the age of 15 and antisocial behavior is not accompanied by a mental illness (mania or psychosis). The causes, as in the case of other personality disorders, are twofold: biological (including disruption of the limbic system of the brain responsible for emotions) and environmental (parenting style on the part of caregivers). Experts believe that the development of a dissocial personality in a child can be facilitated by the lack of love and security in childhood, the experience of violence and upbringing in a family with drug addiction and alcoholism.
